The esport championships, to be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Sunday, July 22, will be streamed live around the world.

Schools from across Australia will be invited to play in an online Rocket League qualifying tournament to determine the four best teams, which will then be flown to Adelaide to compete in the LAN event finals series.

The High School Esports League (HSEL) was created by the Adelaide Football Club in March and the first installment of it, HSEL – League of Legends 2018, recently got underway.

HSEL Commissioner Woody Wu said Rocket League was a natural next step for HSEL.

“We were looking at other games and which ones would make sense for the high school eSports space and now have this great opportunity with Hybrid World Adelaide to put on a Rocket League tournament,” Wu said.

“Rocket League, basically soccer but with cars, is a popular game suitable for high school students and is a competitive game that provides opportunities to build character and teamwork.”

Esports influencer Muselk, who has nearly 5.5 million YouTube subscribers and more than 350,000 Twitter followers, will launch the event and be the host on the day.

“I’m really excited to head down to Adelaide and get involved with the High School Esports League,” Muselk said.

“It’s an awesome opportunity to meet all the up-and-coming pro-gamers in Australia and get even more people involved in this awesome community.”

Hybrid World Director Amanda Duthie said she was excited to help expand the reach and calibre of eSports competitions in Australia.

“Hybrid World Adelaide is the perfect setting to showcase Australia’s growing eSports community, offering people young and old the opportunity to get up close and personal with Australia’s young and rapidly growing esports league,” said Duthie.

Hybrid World Adelaide is a digital entertainment and technology event that explores the future of a ‘hybrid world’, where the real and digital worlds collide and ultimately evolve. It will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from July 20 to 24.
