South Australia's UN recognised climate change plan rolled out to regions

SOUTH Australia has released its latest regional plan to prepare for climate change in the Murray-Darling Basin area, one of the most significant agricultural areas in the country.

The state's Regional Adaptation Framework, which provides a guide for regions to build resilience to climate-related impact in the future, was one of only two initiatives highlighted during the United Nations' Climate Summit in New York.

Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation Ian Hunter said that South Australia, and in particular the Murray-Darling area, had already shown the ability to adapt to harsh climate conditions during the Millennium drought.

“This plan shows how the region can limit the effects of climate change and take advantage of any opportunities that might arise. It will ensure the region is adaptive and sustainable, and continues to be a place where people want to live, visit and do business,” Minister Hunter said.
