“We are calling all the ground-breakers, the risk-takers, the challenge-seekers, and the game changers,” said O’Brien.
“Through this program we assess, mentor, profile and promote innovative and emerging technologies that have the potential to enhance industry efficiency and competitiveness.”
The competition is open to companies that address pollution, waste treatment and energy storage, or areas such as new ways of looking at energy efficiency, building materials, transportations systems, public utilities.
Last year, 220 companies entered the competition of which 36 were selected for the final round.
These semi-finalists joined a trade mission to Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai and Seoul to seek customers, partners and investors.
“The companies that participated received over $10,000 worth of benefits and generated over $150m worth of potential contracts,” said O’Brien.
Although all finalists benefit from mentoring and business opportunities, overall winners are also selected.
Winner of the Energy Award in the 2014 competition, solar energy technology company Raygen Resources progressed to secure the top prize at the Global Cleantech Cluster Association (GCCA) Later Stage Awards in Lausanne, Switzerland.
“RayGen has developed technology for concentrating energy in solar photovoltaics,” said O’Brien. “With the contacts made through their award, they have signed a $60 million deal in China, and now they actually export solar to China.”
Entries for the 2015 Australian Technologies Competition open on March 25 and close on May 19 2015.
