China's Shandong Province features at the Royal Adelaide Show

OVER the space of 10 days more than half a million South Australians will be able to experience the culture, attractions and offerings the state’s Chinese sister province Shandong.

The extensive Shandong exhibition will be displayed at South Australia’s largest public event – the annual Royal Adelaide Show that begins on September 4.

More than half a million people visit the annual Royal Adelaide Show in South Australia which blends horticulture and agriculture industries with a carnival atmosphere of children’s rides and sideshows.

It will be the largest ever international exhibition held at the Royal Adelaide Show where Shandong Province will showcase their culture, trade, tourism and investment opportunities.

In May this year South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill led the state’s largest international trade mission to China, which focused on Shandong Province.

The delegation included more than 250 representatives from state and local government and private industry and was designed to boost export and investments opportunities for South Australia with China.

The Shandong display at the Royal Adelaide Show will be cover 144 square metres and include demonstrations of traditional dance, crafting, noodle making, tourist attractions, popular products and agricultural produce.

South Australian Minister for Investment and Trade, Martin Hamilton-Smith highlighted the opportunity during the trade mission.

He said the Royal Adelaide Show was an ideal location for Shandong delegates to be exposed to a diverse range of current and aspiring exporters.

“This exhibition will assist South Australian businesses to further understand the modern Chinese commercial market and to highlight opportunities to export our premium products and services, which will drive job growth in our state,’’ he said.

“This is the result of South Australia’s strengthening relationship with Shandong and will provide a unique opportunity to develop our engagement, commercial relationships and cultural exchange.

“Shandong has a population of about 100 million people and gross domestic product nearing US$1 trillion – the potential for mutual benefit between our sister states is significant.”

Royal Adelaide Show general manager Michelle Hocking said it provide an excellent opportunity for a destination to showcase their attributes to the broader community of South Australia.

“Show-goers will see firsthand what a wonderful place Shandong Province, China is and I’m sure will be tempted to put the city of on their wish list of places to visit in the future.”
