David Gulpilil awarded best actor at Cannes Film Festival

AUSTRALIAN actor David Gulpilil has been awarded best actor in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival for his portrayal of Charlie in South Australian produced film Charlie’s Country.

The Un Certain Regard category runs parallel to the main Cannes festival with a focus on innovative film-making and individual points of view.

David Gulpilil has previously appeared in Walkabout, Storm Boy, Crocodile Dundee, Mad Dog Morgan, The Tracker and Ten Canoes.

Charlie’s Country was post-produced in South Australia, also winning the audience award for most popular feature film when screened at the Adelaide Film Festival. Director Rolf De Heer is an almnus of the South Australian Film Corporation.
