City of Salisbury, in South Australia, formally recognised their growing ties this week, signing a Friendship Agreement to further develop trade and investment opportunities between China and Australia.

The ceremony, which took place at Salisbury Council Chambers on Monday night, was attended by Linyi Mayor Zhang Shuping, Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge, a Linyi delegation and South Australian politicians.

Located north of Adelaide, Salisbury is home to world leading research facilities and innovators in defense, logistics and advanced manufacturing.

The region is also considered the food hub of South Australia, delivering clean and green produce and premium food products

Mayor Aldridge said the Agreement was a “major milestone” for the City of Salisbury.

“Linyi is home to more than 10 million people with a GDP growing at 11.8 per cent, in 2012 their total foreign trade value increased by 15.5 per cent.

“I truly believe Salisbury-based businesses will see more opportunities for investment, export and trade as we continue to build our ties with China,” she said.

Earlier this year Governor Guo Shuqing welcomed South Australia's largest trade delegation to Shandong further strengthening the sister-city relationship.

A Memorandum of Understanding with the Shandong Province was signed, resulting in a working group of key South Australian and Shandong government departments responsible for developing industry sectors such as minerals and energy, clean-technology, agribusiness, wine, culture and education.

“I believe this Agreement, along with the Memorandum of Understanding signed in May, will provide an excellent mechanism for further developing our economic and social relations with China, and in particular Linyi,” said Mayor Aldridge.
