Flinders University achieved a significant improvement on its 2012 rankings, with five of the university's research fields including Nanotechnology, Cardiovascular Medicine, and Sports Science ranked well “above” world standards this year.

“This is an exceptional result for Flinders, confirming our position as a world class research-intensive university, and underscoring our commitment to making a positive difference through our high quality research” said Flinders University vice chancellor professor Stirling.

The University of Adelaide also received an outstanding result in the latest national measure of research quality in Australia, with more than 80 per cent of the University’s research areas considered above or well above world standard.

“Importantly, each of our five major research Institutes has been associated with the maximum rating of 5 for research quality in their fields.

“While this is a time of congratulations for our researchers, it is also a time to reflect on the enormous potential for our research to make a difference to people’s lives, to health, the environment, business and industry, the economy and to government,” said University of Adelaide vice chancellor professor Warren Bebbington.

The University of South Australia’s new Future Industries Institute has also been recognised as a world-class centre for research, according to the latest ERA results.

The Institute has experts working in the fields of sustainable minerals production and mining, the development of novel solutions for energy generation and storage, environmental remediation and monitoring, diagnostics and healthcare.

“Universities have a pivotal role in powering enterprise through the development of new knowledge and at UniSA we see this as central to our research culture,” said UniSA vice chancellor professor David Lloyd.

UniSA achieved the top 5 rating for research excellence in 16 research fields.
